"Taj Mahal" - Ruchi Patel

This piece is from my Indian-influenced collection. This art plays with the saying 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder.' The Taj Mahal is centered in front of a moon, which is also part of a larger eye. The entire drawing is hand-drawn with ink and collaged with ripped paper. The colors of the ripped paper represent the vibrant colors of Indian clothing and culture in general. The Taj Mahal was constructed in 1632 by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to commemorate his deceased wife Mumtaz Mahal. The heart drawn to the left represents the love between the two, who are drawn on the right. The beauty of their love and this architecture is everlasting which is represented by the waves illustrated at the bottom. The outer space background with the stars and planets explores the timeless architectural beauty of the Taj Mahal even when removed from context.
