What The Hell Does Zindagi Mean?

Our Intentions

Let's be real: 2020 has been a shitshow so far. Since the new year, we have faced COVID-19, Australian bushfires, Kobe Bryant's death, Puerto Rican earthquakes, police brutality and the murder of George Floyd, the Yemen humanitarian crisis, and more. In our lifetimes, this has been one of the most tumultuous eras. It seems like a new atrocity strikes the world every day.

Zindagi (n.) (Hindi)- life, living, existence.  Despite all of these tragedies, all of us have been blessed with undeniable privileges and resources. Instead of simply complaining about these issues or reposting a graphic on an Instagram story, we wanted to create a platform that helps us articulate our struggles and propose realistic solutions. Activism should not be performative- we should all want to truly improve our community. Go beyond the mindless motions and add a purpose, a true zindagi.

Gen-Z, the future is quite literally in our hands. We are the most racially/ethnically diverse generation thus far and more educated than any of our previous cohorts. We see you making your mark in political rallies, in protests, in your neighborhoods, and on social media. It's up to us to make the most of the world we inherit and make a profound impact. We hope by starting this site, we take our first baby step towards a more promising future. We were all endowed with the capacity to speak up: it's time to use those voices.
